Evaluation Process 2011/2012 Season

Metro Selects (MSL) In-Season Evaluations

4 District Select (Streamed, Gold and Silver) Teams

Metro Selects (MSL) In-Season Evaluations

  • Players wll be evaluated over the course of the season by their club coach and AGTC.
  • The results of these in season evaluations along with the results of the end of season evaluations (TBD) will be used as input to the MSL team formation.
  • Teams will be formed upon the recommendation of the AGTC by a committee consisting of the AGTC and other NVFC Centre of Excellence (CoE) coaches. If the player evlauations are run jointly by NVFC and WVSC, the committee will also include WVSC professional coaches.

4 District Select (Streamed, Gold and Silver) Teams

In Season Evaluations

Select Players
In U11 to U16 will be evaluated by both their head coach and AGTC. Since there is not an AGTC for U17, those players will be evaluated by their Head Coach only.

House Players

  • NVFC CoE coaches will identify players with the potential to play Select at their Grassroots Development sessions. The appropriate Select AGC will be notified so that these players can be added to the Pool of players available to be brought up on ICP's. Identified players will be automatically invited to End of Season Evaluations.
  • At season's end, House coaches will be able to recommend players to attend End of Season Evaluations.

U10 Players for next season’s U11 Streamed
Players are evaluated during:

  • 2 games visits
  • 3 development sessions

Goal Keepers
Current Select GKs are being evaluated by their coach & AGTC. All GK's may request to be evaluated at the GK development Jan-Feb sessions.

End-of-Season Evaluations

In consultation with the Select Coaches, AGC's and AGTC, each age group will be individually analyzed by the Evaluations Committee to determine the number and levels of select teams to form next season. Many factors will be considered including:

  • Player evaluation results
  • Player retention
  • Teams’ standings
  • Parent/player feedback about select coaches

Coach’s evaluations of players will be necessary for all players (Select, House and new to NVFC).

 · To form next season’s U11 Streamed teams:

  • Based on the results of the in season evaluations, players with the potential to play at the streamed level will be invited to attend the end of season evaluations.
  • Goal Keepers will be identified and balanced across the teams. These players will be given a higher percentage of the GK playing time. Teams without an identified Goal Keeper will split the GK playing time equally amongst all players.

 · To form next season’s U12 – U14 Select teams:

  • Based on the results of the in season evaluations, players with the potential to play at the select level will be placed into pools and invited to attend the end of season evaluations.
  • End of season evaluations will consist of a series of Capstone or Evaluation Games where players are separated by their pool. (# of games depends on size of select pool).
  • For example, players ranked Gold or high Silver in one series of games with remaining players in the following series of games.
  • Paid field marshal who will also referee plus AGTC and GK evaluator will be present
  • To ensure that players have been correctly pooled, independent evaluators will be present. The scores from the independent evaluators will be compared to the scores from the Coach/AGTC. Discrepancies will need to be accounted for. For example, a player with a lower season end evaluation score may be the result of a player being sick, injured, etc.
  • Select coaches will scout and will be expected to attend all sessions.

  · To form next season’s U15 – U18 Select Teams:

  • Based on the results of the in season evaluations, players with the potential to play select will be placed into pools.
  • Capstone/evaluation games will be held – number of sessions varies depending on the size of the player pool, number of teams, etc.
  • Because there was not an AGTC for previous season U17 Select teams, Independent Evaluators will be required at the U18 Capstone/Evaluation Games.

Team Formation

Team formation will be a collaborative process by a committee of experts from the age group, for example:

  • Select coaches from the age group
  • AGTC
  • AGC’s
  • NVFC Board member
  • Evaluations Committee member

Players new to NVFC

Players must provide NVFC with a player evaluation from their previous coach.

Players who register prior to the Select Team Formation:

  • We will arrange evaluations for players who are new to NVFC in order to include them in the evaluation process.

Players who register after the Select Team Formation:

  • New players who have been placed on House teams after the select teams have been formed will be evaluated and, if they have the potential to play select, will be added into the appropriate select pool. If any select spots become available, select coaches will be expected to scout players from their particular pool to find a replacement.

Player Team Placement Review

Parents may request a review of their son’s team placement by the Evaluations Director. The Evaluations Director will review the player’s evaluation results and ensure that NVFC Policy has been followed, and, where necessary, enlist the guidance of the particular AGTC, NVFC Development Director or other independent club coaches. The Evaluations Director will report the findings of the review to the parents in compliance with club policy.

Select Player Expectations

"Skill got you here; attitude will keep you here."

Being a select team player not only requires skill, but also a strong commitment to the sport of soccer as well as your team.
So, what does it take to be a select team player?

  • You must have a high degree of skill and a proven level of achievement at soccer, demonstrated by you throughout the past playing year, and at the evaluation camps.
  • Select team players will practice a minimum of twice a week and be available for all games, cup competition as well as any tournaments your team may enter.
  • Select team players may be encouraged to attend additional soccer training sessions, team practices as well as exhibition games.
  • You must share the enthusiasm and commitment of your fellow team-mates in prioritizing your soccer commitments. Any known conflicts that will prevent you from participating in team activities on a recurring basis should be discussed with your current coach, and be taken into consideration as part of your decision to attend evaluation camps.
  • Select team players require the attitude to excel by working hard during the training sessions, preparing themselves mentally for the task and learn to understand the level of their physical and mental form.
