Overview

LVSA, along with the other boys clubs on the North Shore, is participating in the U11 4 District Program, also known as “U11 Streamed Teams”. The U11 Streamed Teams will be comprised of approximately 10–25 % of our strongest players. The teams will play in the 4 District Soccer League in an interlocking schedule with teams from the North Shore, Burnaby, Vancouver and Richmond. The number of Streamed Teams formed will depend on the numbers of players interested in participating in this program, their skill levels and the overall skill level of the entire age group. Our U11 Streamed Teams will be balanced; i.e., equal strength. The remaining U11 players will play in the N.S.Y.S.A. House League with games played strictly on the North Shore.

The emphasis is on player development for all U11 teams. Game scores must be reported for monitoring purposes only and will never be published. All players can expect to receive equal playing time.

Players will be placed on U11 Streamed Teams based on the results of the Player Evaluation Process. The evaluation process gives consideration to a player’s skill level, athletic ability, and playing ability. A player and his parents/guardians should consider the attitude required as well as the time and commitment involved with a streamed team.

Coaches interested in coaching a U11 Streamed Team must submit their application using the U11 Streamed Team Coaching Application Form available on our Web site, www.lvsa.com, by January 4th.

U11 Streamed Team coaches, parents and players can expect:

·         Games to be played on and off the North Shore

·         Team practices to be held twice a week

·         Team participation in tournaments over the summer and on holiday weekends

·         Team practices occasionally over the summer

·         Player participation in additional outside player development to be encouraged.

LVSA Streamed Team Policy
  ▲Top

The LVSA Streamed Team Policy adheres to the LVSA Select Team Policy with the following exceptions:

·        Where more than one streamed team is formed, all teams will be of equal strength.

·         Teams will not move between House and Streamed levels.

Player Evaluation Process

Eligible Age

Underage and overage players are not permitted. For example, only players with their 10th birthday in 2009 are eligible to participate in the U-11 age group in the 2009/2010 season.

LVSA U10 Jamborees

After the Winter Break, LVSA will hold two different LVSA U10 Jamborees on Saturday mornings at LVSA’s home field. The Jamborees’ dates and schedules will be provided through the Age Group Coordinator (AGC) in advance. All players, including those who do not wish to be placed on a Streamed Team, are expected to participate in the Jamborees as they are considered part of the U10 regular soccer season.

During the Jamboree games, players will be evaluated by NSSDC coaches

All players interested in playing on a Streamed Team who, under any circumstances, are unable to attend either Jamboree dates will require a letter of explanation for his absence. This letter will be required one (1) week after the Jamboree date and is to be submitted to the Intermediate Director via their AGC.

Players whose cumulative or aggregate scores submitted over the two Jamboree sessions show that they have the potential to play on a Streamed Team will be invited to a Final Player Evaluation. Consideration will also be given to Coaches' Player Assessments. The Final Evaluation will be held in March or April, and players will be evaluated by independent LVSA coaches (i.e., not from their age group).

Coaches' Player Assessments

U10 coaches will evaluate their players over the course of the season. Prior to March 31st, all U10 coaches will forward an LVSA Player Assessment for each player who wishes to play on a Streamed Team to the LVSA Intermediate Director.

Players who are new to LVSA and interested in playing on a Streamed Team should contact the Intermediate Director prior to the Final Player Evaluation.

Coaches:

Coaches will be selected for eligibility prior to the first LVSA U10 Jamboree.

Goal Keepers:

No Goal Keepers are selected, as all players are expected to play in goal. During the evaluation process, players can volunteer to play goal and be scored on their defensive abilities.

Team Formation

All U10 players interested in playing on a Streamed Team will register and submit payment for the following year, plus any evaluation fee required prior to the Final Player Evaluation.

Players’ rankings will be determined or based on the cumulative or aggregate of evaluations submitted over the two Jamboree sessions plus the Final Player Evaluation. A list is prepared, sorted by highest to lowest score. Final coaching selections will be made at this time.

Number of Teams:

LVSA Board of Directors will determine the number of streamed teams to be formed each season.

Team Size:

Recommend 13 players, but 14 can be taken at coach’s discretion.

Team Names:

In order of use:

  1. Thunderbirds
  2. Raptors
  3. Eagles
  4. Phoenix

Player Placement
  ▲Top

Because the emphasis is on development, it’s very important that the Streamed Head Coach has assistant coaches that he/she can work well with. Each Streamed Team Coach can choose up to 2 Assistant Coaches for his/her team. Along with the Coach’s son, the Assistant Coaches' sons must also be ranked eligible to play on a Streamed Team, i.e., be ranked in the top 45 for 3 Streamed Teams.

Players are placed on teams as follows:

Assuming 3 teams: Team X, Team Y and Team Z

Players ranked 1 (highest score) to 45

§         Round 1:

o        Team X – player 1

o        Team Y – player 2

o        Team Z - player 3

§         Round 2:

o        Team Z – player 4

o        Team Y – player 5

o        Team X – player 6

§         Round 3:

o        Team X – player 7

o        Team Y – player 8

o        Team Z – player9

§         Etc until a minimum of 13 and a maximum of 14 players are placed on each Streamed Team.

As coaches' and assistant coaches’ sons come up, they become that team’s “pick” for the current round.

Player Notification
  ▲Top

The Intermediate Director will provide the AGC with provisional rosters.

Streamed Team Head Coaches are given their roster and must notify the AGC of any potential problems within 24 hours.

Streamed Coaches will then contact the players on their roster and determine if all players will accept their positions. Since players will be waiting for “the call”, it is vital that the Streamed Team Head coaches follow the schedule outlined to players and parents. There will be no deviation from this timeline.

Any player who does not accept a position to the team he is selected to, will be required to play at the House level. Players are not permitted to change teams.

Remaining Players:

Players not placed on a Streamed Team will be placed on the Streamed Team Alternate List and return to the roster of their previous team. They will be notified by their Head Coach.

Selection of Coaches

Expectations and Application Procedures

The selection of the Coaches of the U11 Streamed teams will be made up of a panel of LVSA Board members including the Intermediate Director, and can include former U11 Streamed Team Coaches.

The panel will consist of a minimum 3 and a maximum of 6 members.

The panel will outline the reasonable expectations and minimum requirements of each applicant.

The applicants will be ranked but not selected as a Streamed Team Coach until the results from the two Jamboree sessions have been completed. Applicants will only be selected to a Streamed Team Coaching position if his/her son is ranked as eligible to play on a Streamed Team, i.e., top 45 players for 3 Streamed Teams.

Interested applicants must submit a letter of interest plus resume to the Intermediate Director. All applicants must submit applications by January 4. Selection for eligibility will be made by end of February.

Reasonable requirements of Coaches

  • A commitment to the club and not just to one’s own goals
  • Must display a willingness to work with other coaches in the advancement of the whole age group
  • Past conduct of Coach will be considered in selection process
  • Must have proper certification or commitment to obtain certification by end of calendar year – guidelines pre-determined by B.C Soccer
  • Streamed Team Coaches must be willing to cooperate with respect to promoting player development.
  • Playing experience of Coach, not a necessity, but will be looked upon favourably
  • Practices – expect 2 practices and 1 game weekly

STRICT BAN ON GRASS FIELD PRACTICES
Because grass fields are so easily damaged, the District of North Vancouver enforces a strict no-practice rule for all grass fields. This encompasses all types of practice, from simple conditioning drills to full-fledged scrimmages. Most LVSA teams respect this rule and help to protect our grass fields by staying off. For those tempted to bypass this rule, please note that teams found practicing on a grass field will automatically lose their grass privileges for the year. The District also levies fines of up to $500 to violators. If you know of anyone practicing on grass fields, please tell them to stop.
